The University of Kentucky Speech and Debate Team has had yet another successful year of competition. They started at the Falcon Classic at Bowling Green State University in November 2018, where Laura McAllister, Josie Higgins, and Irish Jenkins kicked off a strong season: Laura stood as the IPDA champion. The three also found a great deal of success at Transylvania University's WYRD tournament in December. In 2019, Josie and Irish went on to win the novice division of Parliamentary Debate at the Bulldog Battle, hosted at Butler University, and continued to receive recognition for their participation in Individual Events. Webster University's Gorlock Gala saw Josie advance to semifinals in Impromptu.
Josie and Irish advanced to semifinals in Parliamentary Debate at the Kentucky Forensics Association state tournament at Boyce College, where the team also won numerous trophies for participation in elimination rounds of Individual Events. Finally, UK Speech and Debate flew to Hofstra University in New York for the Pi Kappa Delta National Comprehensive Tournament, where Laura won three excellence awards as well as a superior award in Impromptu.
The team is excited to spend this summer preparing for next season. If you are interested in auditioning or learning more about how to get involved, feel free to reach out on any of the team's social media channels or through email at email@example.com.
