The University of Kentucky Forensics Team recently traveled to Eastern Michigan University in Ypsilanti, MI to take part in the National Forensic Association national tournament. This national event is the largest individual events tournament in the country with over 1,500 speeches entered in the competition.
Four competitors from UK’s Forensics Team took part in this national tournament. While no students advanced to the elimination rounds, the team was able to quadruple their performance from the past year. Overall, this allowed the team to place 14th in President’s Division II of the team sweepstakes competition.
“The past two years have really been incredible” says Director of Forensics Timothy Bill. “The team continues to meet and exceed all of my expectations for such a young program.”
The NFA national tournament was the team’s last competition for this academic year. Here are some statistics from the 2013-2014 season:
Number of miles traveled: 3,923 Number of nights in a hotel: 18 Number of individual awards: 155 Number of team awards: 13 Number of national qualifications: 17
Over the summer, UK Forensics will begin to prepare for the next competitive season. If you’re interested in trying out for the team, please contact Director of Forensics Timothy Bill at email@example.com.
