Five members of the UK Forensics team competed at the Pi Kappa Delta National Tournament and Convention this past weekend at Webster University in St. Louis.
Over 85 schools from 36 states participated in the event. There were nearly 1,500 entries between individual events and debate. It was also Pi Kappa Delta's 100 year anniversary as an organization.
The top 10% of competitors in each event received a Superior Award and those in the top 30% received an Excellent Award.
University of Kentucky students earned the following honors:
Abel Rodriguez Excellent – Extemporaneous Speaking Excellent – International Public Debate
Stephanie Winkler Excellent – Persuasive Speaking
Zachary Shinall Excellent – Impromptu Speaking
In addition, at the local province meeting, coach Nigel Haarstad was elected to be the Lieutenant Governor of the Province of the Southeast and Abel Rodriguez was elected to be the Student Lieutenant Governor. In these roles, Nigel and Abel will help oversee our province and increase Pi Kappa Delta’s visibility in our region of the country.
Finally, the University of Kentucky was officially inducted into the national organization as the Kentucky Nu Chapter of Pi Kappa Delta.
The team's last tournament of the year will be the National Forensics Association National Tournament at Marshall University in Huntington, West Virginia from April 18th-22nd. Thank you for your support of our team and this activity.
